Hi everyone,
We’re back with another update from the Foothill Racing Team! Over the past few months, our subteams have made significant progress as we reach the final steps of completing the FR-02. As many core systems are set into motion, our team is closer to being fully assembled, tested, and competition ready. Let’s dive into what the team has accomplished.
The chassis team has completed the steering and braking systems on the FR-02, which allows the car to move and respond efficiently during our previous early mechanical testing. These systems are important for both safety and performance during the competition.
We have begun to dive into body fabrication as of next week. This stage involves the construction of the aerodynamic shell of the vehicle and will improve the structural protection for the car. We’re thankful to be partnering with Bay Area Composites to help fabricate the carbon fiber shell.
The engine is now fully operational, a major milestone for the powertrain team. The car can move under its own power, and the team is working towards refining the engine performance and strengthening the FR-02’s systems in terms of reliability and efficiency in correlation to competition conditions.
The electronics team worked with chassis to create the throttle and electrical systems, which we need to monitor the vehicle’s performance and run the vehicle. This team is currently in the testing phase, having already fabricated the custom PCB. Integration is all that is needed.
As we enter the final stages of the build, logistics becomes the main focus of our team. With travel, and especially freight costs, being very high, we’re kindly asking for sponsors to aid our team as they’ve done in the past to ensure that each and every one of our team members can attend this year as a payoff of all the work they’ve done.
